MEDFLOW FAQS: Medication Management & eRx

When I am reviewing current medications, do I need to mark CURRENT in Medflow?
YES! We need to mark medications current in Medflow.  Any medications that need to be added to the systems or ophthalmic screen will be added from DrFirst.  When you select "Medications Reviewed" it will mark medications as current with the current date in Medflow.

NOTE: Did you know that you can slide your mouse from the bottom to the top to select all meds in these screens?  After selecting them all in blue, select the CURRENT button.  Done!

It won't hurt to use the Medications Reviewed Button in DrFirst, but this will not pull over to the Medflow Exam Document.

How do I add the patient's Prescription Insurance Formulary information?  Can I change or update this?
Formulary information is automatically imported from Surescripts.  You do not need to add this and you are unable to modify the information.  You can use the dropdown to select a different formulary, if a patient is associated with more than one, or select "No Formulary".
  • If no formulary is available, (which could occur with government funded formularies or some small payers,) you will see an "Add" option to the right of the Formulary section.  Here you will enter the information from the patient's insurance card.
If a patient has recently changed their prescription coverage, the information will not update in Surescripts until the patient fills a prescription with the new formulary information.

Drug and Formulary Look-Up:
The Drug function allows you quick access to drug information. Type at least the first 3 letters of the drug name, then click <Look up a drug> or use your Enter button. You will be directed to a screen which displays all drug names that fit your 3 letter criteria. The more letters you type in, the more specific your search results will be. Scroll down to find the appropriate drug. You will find the different dosage information following the drug name.

If you are using the Comprehensive option, clicking on Monograph displays the complete information on side effects, dosing, etc. in a popup window. Likewise, clicking on Leaflet displays patient educational materials for printing. Select the appropriate language. If the drug information is not available in the specified language, the default language will be English. To return to the Location and Resources Page, click <Cancel/Close>.

If you have the Comprehensive option, you are able to check the Formulary for a specific insurance plan. First select the desired insurance plan from the dropdown box. Next enter at least the first 3 letters of the drug name and click on the <Look up a drug> button.  The popup screen will then indicate if this drug is “approved”, “non formulary”, “preferred”, “prior authorization required”, etc. for this insurance plan. To obtain further formulary information click on the coverage information link. (Example: If a drug displays a Non Formulary link, click on that link to find a drug which is covered. This functionality is used as a general reference only. All patient-specific formulary information will be obtained from the Compose Rx Page. Click <Cancel/Close> to return to the Location and Resource Page.
